From The State Journal-Register: SJ-R Editorial Cartoonist to Receive Award Saturday
October 22, 2007 02:24 PM
he State Journal-Register editorial cartoonist Chris Britt is being recognized with the 2007 James P. McGuire Award for excellence in journalism.
Britt will receive the award during a presentation ceremony as part of the 2007 ACLU of Illinois Bill of Rights Celebration, to be held in Chicago on Saturday.
“Britt’s quick wit and acerbic commentary make this a well-earned award,” said Colleen Connell, executive director of the ACLU of Illinois, in announcing the award.
“Most important, he has been willing to ‘speak truth to power’ through his timely, biting commentary in an age when too many members of the media have not asked difficult questions. Britt has not been hesitant to raise tough issues affecting our personal freedoms,” she said.
In 1994, Britt was recognized as Cartoonist of the Year by the National Press Foundation in Washington, D.C. His cartoons also are reprinted regularly in national publications, including Newsweek, Time Magazine, the New York Times, the Washington Post, USA Today and U.S. News and World Report. He also has been recognized by the United Nations.
