Guantanamo and Due Process
July 9, 2007 12:24 PM
A founding partner of Sachnoff & Weaver, now Reed Smith Sachnoff & Weaver, Lowell Sachnoff is a long-time supporter of ACLU. Over the years he has worked closely with ACLU staff in many litigation and policy matters, including his groundbreaking work in the early 80's when he led a team of ACLU lawyers against the City of Chicago and its policy of routinely strip searching women for minor traffic stops and misdemeanors, winning the first jury verdict against the City that put an end to that discriminatory practice. As a co-founder of the Chicago Chapter of the Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights Under Law, Lowell continues to serve on the National Board of the Lawyers' Committee. He has received many honors for his work and commitment to social justice and civil rights. Last year he began working with the Center for Constitutional Rights representing prisoners at Guantanamo, and recently spent a week there, interviewing his clients and working for their release.
