Illinois House Committee Joins Revolt Against REAL ID
March 7, 2007 11:27 AM

From the State Capitol:

By a 14 to 0 vote, the Illinois House Judiciary I -- Civil Law -- Committee today sent to the House floor HJR 27, a resolution calling for repeal of the federal REAL ID Act. You can read more about the resolution at http://www.aclu-il.org/news/press/2007/03/aclu_joins_state_legislative_l.shtml.

State Representative Karen Yarbrough presented the Resolution to the Committee, raising all the concerns we have about this legislation and its impact on individual privacy. The Committee members all voiced support, and the Committee Chair ended the discussion by noting that Congress will look back on REAL ID as a "terrible idea" that does not add anything to our national safety.

We look forward to this legislation moving forward in the House.
